M3 Chlorotrimethylsilane Description
Chlorotrimethylsilane (molecular formula: (CH3)3SiCl), also known as Trimethylchlorosilane, is a colorless liquid at room temperature, volatile, and flammable. It is primarily used in the production of sealer MM, silicon nitrogen compounds, head-holding antibiotics, and active gene protection agents.
As a halosilane, Trimethylchlorosilane has many applications in organic synthesis. It is stable in the absence of water but decomposes in water to form hexamethyldisiloxane and hydrochloric acid. This compound is typically produced through the reaction of methyl chloride with silicon powder in the presence of cuprous chloride, followed by distillation purification, or via nucleophilic substitution with methyl reagents such as methyl lithium and silicon tetrachloride.

Vinyl Terminated Silicone Fluid: Guide
Chlorotrimethylsilane is primarily used as an intermediate in the production of silicone oil, water-repellent agents, and analytical reagents.
Trimethylchlorosilane (M3) is widely employed in chemical synthesis and drug synthesis as a protective group for functional groups like hydroxyl, amino, and carboxyl. It is also used as a sealing agent for organosilicon polymers in processes such as petroleum production, where it helps regulate the molecular weight of polymers.
Additionally, Trimethylchlorosilane is a key raw material in the production of hexamethyldisilazane (amine) and hexamethyldisiloxane. It can be used to prepare alkylating agents and serve as a group protection agent in pharmaceutical and chemical production.
