Alkyl Silane: Guide
Alkyl silanes are organosilicides formed by bonding organic groups to silicon atoms, providing unique properties compared to traditional alkyl compounds. The molecular structure of alkyl silanes is similar to alkyl compounds, but the presence of silicon atoms imparts special characteristics that improve performance in various applications.
These silanes are typically colorless, clear liquids that are soluble in common non-polar organic solvents, such as petroleum ether and toluene. The medium-chain alkyl functional group provides excellent compounding properties, allowing treated minerals or pigments to be effectively incorporated into polymers like polyethylene or polypropylene.
Alkyl silanes are available in standard packaging sizes of 25 kg, 200 kg drums, and 1000 kg IBC containers for industrial use.
