3-Acetoxypropyltrimethoxy silane Description

3-Acetoxypropyltrimethoxysilane is an acetoxy silane with an acetoxy functional group containing an unsaturated double-bond structure and three hydrolyzable alkoxy groups (methoxy). This dual reactivity allows it to improve bonding and compatibility between inorganic materials (glass, metal, fillers) and organic polymers (thermosetting resins, plastics, elastomers). It enhances the mechanical properties of resin-based composites and improves adhesion strength, water resistance, and other properties of resin coatings.

Additionally, 3-Acetoxypropyltrimethoxysilane can be copolymerized with unsaturated monomers like acrylic acid, methacrylic acid, vinyl acetate, and styrene, imparting moisture curing, excellent adhesion, and water resistance to the resulting copolymer. This silane is used as a coupling agent, adhesion promoter, crosslinking agent, and surface modifier for pigment fillers and silicone-modified graft copolymers.

Usage
  • This product can improve the glass fiber reinforced and containing inorganic fillers of thermosetting and thermoplastic resins mechanical and electrical properties, especially those cured by the reaction of the active free radical mechanism of thermosetting resins (such as unsaturated polyester, polyurethane and acrylate), peroxide vulcanized rubber (EPR, EPDM, silicone rubber, etc.) and thermoplastic resins (including polyolefins and thermoplastic polyurethane).
  • This product can significantly improve the inorganic filler-filled unsaturated polyester composite materials (such as cast or die-cast artificial quartz stone, etc.) of the dry and wet mechanical strength and electrical properties.
  • The product can be copolymerized with vinyl acetate, acrylic acid or methacrylic acid monomer to synthesize silane-modified polymers that can be crosslinked and cured at room temperature. These polymers are widely used in coatings, adhesives and sealants to provide excellent adhesion and durability.

3-Acetoxypropyltrimethoxy silane: Guide

The hydrolysis of 3-Acetoxypropyltrimethoxysilane (CAS 59004-18-1) requires the use of organic acids like formic acid or acetic acid as a catalyst. Adjust the pH of the water to around 3.5-4.5, then add the silane and stir for at least 30 minutes until the silane is fully dissolved, resulting in a clear and transparent solution.

The hydrolyzed silane solution is unstable and should be used within 24 hours. If the solution begins to fog, this indicates that the silane has partially self-polymerized, forming silicone polymers, rendering the solution ineffective.
